In Memoriam

I write a lot about our oldest daughter, Gwyn, whose existence transformed us long before her cancer journey did. During those years, we kept a CaringBridge journal, which inspired me to begin writing here. While we have many more memories to live out (and write about!), her loss and presence touches every moment. “Mom, I’m only ten, and I’m a published author. What’s stopping you from writing a book?” she once chided. What, indeed.

“Mom, I’m only ten, and I’m a published author. What’s stopping you from writing a book?

My mother, S. Denise McColl, died 14 years earlier from the same brain cancer. She also haunts my writing–a welcome haunting. She authored a book of her own. I have good reason to believe that she and Gwyn are together, having fun, and looking out for the rest of us who are running late to the party.
