What is Solemn Joy?

We’re made for this.

Relationships cost us something. Yet the joy and awe we feel in our connections with others can increase our trust, boost our happiness, and ultimately

prepare us for the sobering reality that all human connection is fleeting and fragile.

Beyond the pursuit of happiness, this kind of joy is the serious stuff: like reasonable hope, it does not disappoint…and it cannot be counterfeited.

Practicing the solemn side of joy can prepare us to value relationships as precious. We learn to experience endings and new beginnings with grace. We build courage when community becomes complicated.

As we practice joyful solemnity, it helps us face the fraughtness, even while we savor simple pleasures, in each season of life.

I would love for you to join in.
